I am the luckiest man in the world! I have a beautiful and supportive wife that has shared here life with me for over 20 years now. During that time we also had 4 of the most beautiful children in the world! This nucleus is what enables me to work in a career field that qualifies as my second love; technology.

In the early 90’s I instinctively knew that index cards and typed pieces of paper was not a good way to collect, share, and maintain critical medical information. As a result, I spent many hours in a military operating room figuring out ways to “make this process better”. Immediately I discovered relational databases and a new career was born! No longer would I spend my hours in surgery, I would change the world with database technology!  Since that day, I have spend most of the time away from my family (and often with them) figuring out ways to better the world with RDBMS solutions.

I have worked with Oracle, Sybase, and SQL Server and found them all to have a distinct place in the world. One of the nicest things about being a “DBA” is there is no better job for exposure to ALL technologies. Why, we spend most of our time PROVING it is not the database. To do this we must understand ALL the surrounding technology to make our case! As a result, I have been exposed to network technology, storage technology, operating systems, 3/4G programming languages, security methods and regulations (gotta love PCI and SOX). In short I love being a DBA but get frustrated when some simply says “DBA” because I think this sells us short…we are technicians who know a lot more than just databases!
